Port St Johns Golf Club sits in a natural amphitheatre of forested sand dunes, just 150 metres from where the mighty Umzimvubu River flows into the Indian Ocean.
Built in the 1880s, this is one of the oldest courses in South Africa. The layout has barely changed since 1888. Nine holes. Twenty-seven tee boxes. The tightest margins you will find anywhere. Step 10 metres off line and you are in dense coastal bush.
Between shots, you will spot Cape Parrots (one of Africa's rarest birds), Paradise Flycatchers, and Knysna Louries in the trees above you. The ruins of the historic Cape Hermes Hotel sit on the dunes between the course and the sea.
This is not a manicured estate. This is Wild Coast golf. And there is nothing else like it.
